Kimberly Harris is a multi-faceted artist who brings to life the beauty of the Great American Southwest through her vivid paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. Originally from Illinois, Harris was drawn to the wide-open spaces of the Southwest and eventually moved to Arizona to attend architecture school at Arizona State University in 1977. It was there that she became fascinated with the Southwest's charismatic land formations, vivid colors, and whimsical details.
Harris's travels have been a great source of inspiration for her artwork. She has been privileged to participate in artist residencies at Zion National Park, the Skopelos Foundation in Greece, C.R.E.T.A. in Rome, Paradise Valley Community College mural project, and Vallauris, France. Each residency has further inspired her to study more carefully the intriguingly sensual qualities of the rock formations, breathtaking vistas, and intimate settings.
In her paintings, Harris uses bright and vivid colors to capture the sensuous quality of the land formations. Her sculptures and ceramics have become the essence of each place she has visited, with those shown being directly influenced by the sculpted rock formations found throughout Zion National Park and the Southwest.
